Tragic Hit-and-Run: Update on Sara Burack Case
The woman charged in the hit-and-run death of real estate agent Sara Burack has pleaded not guilty. Amanda Kempton faced a judge on June 21, where she entered her plea regarding a serious charge of leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
Kempton’s attorney claimed she mistakenly thought she had hit a traffic cone and emphasized that alcohol was not involved in the incident. Burack tragically passed away from her injuries at a hospital after the accident, which took place early on June 19.
During the court hearing, prosecutor MacDonald Drane argued for raised bail, as Kempton had reportedly fled the scene initially and was planning to attend a wedding in Virginia shortly after the incident. It was also mentioned that Kempton had visited a tavern before the accident.
This type of charge is serious in New York and can lead to a significant prison sentence of up to seven years. Kempton has since been released on $100,000 bail, which her family provided.
Sara Burack, known for her appearance in the Netflix series Million Dollar Beach House, was only 40 when the accident occurred. She was found unconscious on Montauk Highway and later died in Stony Brook University Hospital.
Burack had a successful career in luxury real estate, previously working with Nest Seekers International. She often talked about her love for real estate, which she pursued after years in her family’s business.
This case continues to develop as the legal proceedings unfold.
