Dubai Shifts Leadership at DP World Amid Scrutiny
Dubai has announced a change in leadership at DP World, a major global logistics company. Essa Kazim has been named the new chairman, replacing Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem. Yuvraj Narayan will take over as group CEO.
This change comes after some financial groups in Canada and the United Kingdom have paused future business plans with DP World. This pause followed the release of emails showing a friendship between bin Sulayem and Jeffrey Epstein.
DP World is a significant economic player, managing the Jebel Ali port in Dubai and operating terminals in various ports worldwide.
The emails in question were part of the Epstein documents recently released. While the emails do not suggest bin Sulayem was involved in Epstein’s crimes, the nature of the correspondence has raised concerns.
Bin Sulayem also held a leadership position with the Dubai World conglomerate, which was responsible for projects like the man-made islands that have become a symbol of Dubai.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, has also appointed a new head of the city-state’s Ports Customs and Free Zone Corporation, a position previously held by bin Sulayem.
The emails between Epstein and bin Sulayem covered a range of topics, including President Donald Trump. In one email, Epstein told bin Sulayem that he is “one of my most trusted friends.”
