Dove Cameron recently shared a heartbreaking story about her childhood.
In an interview, Dove talked about the tragic death of her childhood friend, Hayley. When Dove was just 9 years old, Hayley was killed by her father.
Dove met Hayley when they were both toddlers. They grew up together on Bainbridge Island. Dove remembers feeling a special connection with Hayley.
Dove recalled that Hayley’s parents went through a difficult divorce. She even stayed with Hayley’s dad for a while before the tragedy. Even at a young age, Dove sensed a “dark energy” around him, describing him as a very angry man.
One day, Dove was home sick from school when she overheard a phone call. It was the principal, calling to tell her parents that Hayley and her sister were gone, and that their father had taken them.
Dove said it was impossible to understand what had happened.
After Hayley’s death, Dove’s parents tried to get her therapy. She was deeply disturbed by the fact that someone she had known her whole life could do something so terrible.
Dove also mentioned that the experience had a lasting impact on her and how she processes things.
Dove has been open about her mental health struggles in the past. She shared that she experienced panic attacks while working on the show “Liv and Maddie.” She also lost her father to suicide shortly before starting the show, which was a very difficult time for her.
