Government Watchdog Group Claims Significant Savings by Cutting Wasteful Contracts
A group focused on making government more efficient, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), says it has helped federal agencies stop or reduce 55 contracts recently. These changes could save taxpayers $542 million.
DOGE was started during President Trump’s second term with the goal of making sure tax dollars are spent wisely.
The department shared on social media that these contracts had a total value of $1.6 billion. By cutting them, the government can save a lot of money.
Examples of contracts that were stopped or reduced include:
- A State Department contract for over $47 million related to supporting armored vehicles and army crews in Africa.
- A Health and Human Services contract for almost $20 million for IT services.
- A Department of Education contract for leadership training.
DOGE says these cuts show that the government is serious about being responsible with taxpayer money.
The announcement comes as some are questioning how government money is being spent, particularly after recent reports of fraud in government-funded programs.
