Dog’s Breakfast Adventure: A Journey for a Burrito
In a charming tale from Langford, South Dakota, a four-year-old Great Pyrenees named Max embarked on an unexpected adventure. One night, he decided to leave the comfort of his home, walking five miles to his favorite convenience store, all for a breakfast burrito.
Max’s adventure began shortly after 11:30 PM when his young owner, Emily, came home. In the hustle and bustle of the evening, Max managed to slip out of the garage unnoticed. His determination to return to the convenience store, where he had been treated to a burrito before, led him on an ambitious journey across fields and through the night.
Early the next morning, Emily’s mother, Sara Olson, received multiple alerts from Max’s GPS tracker, indicating he had set off around 11:39 PM. “I woke up to a flurry of alerts about Max’s location. He had walked to town for two hours and then waited patiently outside the store for five hours,” Sara recounted.
Interestingly, though the distance by road is about seven miles, Max cut a diagonal path through the countryside, shortening his trek to about five miles. “He kind of went straight through the land,” Sara explained.
After a long wait at the convenience store, Max was disappointed to find that it was still closed. Instead of giving up, he ventured over to Emily’s boyfriend’s house. “What’s funny is that he had never been there before, but Great Pyrenees have amazing noses and must have picked up on something,” Sara observed.
While Max didn’t get his burrito that day, his owners decided to turn this mischief into a positive experience. They began preparing homemade breakfast burritos for him each day to deter him from his future escapades. “We’re hoping that will prevent him from making another five-mile trek through the countryside,” Sara said with a smile.
Max was adopted by the Olson family two years ago after being found as a stray. Sara describes him as an exceptional dog. “He is the best companion. I feel like he truly understands and appreciates living with us,” she shared.
This heartwarming story not only highlights the bond between pets and their owners but also the lengths a dog will go for a beloved treat. It serves as a reminder of the loyalty and love animals bring into our lives, encouraging pet owners everywhere to create stronger connections with their furry friends.
Sara and her husband Nathan, who works as a farmer, are grateful to have Max in their lives. His adventurous spirit has surely added an exciting chapter to their family’s story. Now, with a breakfast burrito on the menu each day, they hope their beloved dog stays home a bit more. But knowing Max’s determination, only time will tell if he plans another quest for those tasty treats!
