A young dog from Arizona is getting a second chance just in time for the new year. Armando, a 4-year-old Labrador retriever mix, has found his forever home after being sadly abandoned earlier this month.
On December 15, staff at the Arizona Humane Society discovered Armando tied up in the parking lot of their Sunnyslope Campus. Attached to him was a heartfelt note from his previous owners that expressed their sorrow over having to leave him behind due to unforeseen circumstances.
The note went on to detail Armando’s friendly nature, noting he was good with both other dogs and people, but that he had a history of ear infections. They prayed he would find a loving home, signing off with a heartfelt “God bless.”
After being rescued, Armando received treatment for an ear infection, but he soon recovered to be perfectly healthy. According to the Humane Society, Armando might be a little shy at first but warms up quickly with some kindness and treats.
Now, the good news is that Armando has found a new family. He has been playing non-stop with his new dog sister, sharing the couch between their games of tug-of-war in the backyard. His new family has expressed that it feels like he has always been a part of their lives.
The Arizona Humane Society has reported that they cared for over 22,000 sick and abused pets in 2024, the highest number they have seen in a decade. Unfortunately, this rising number of abandoned pets is linked to various societal challenges, such as increasing home prices and a shortage of affordable pet care, which have led many families to make the tough choice of rehoming their pets.
These stories highlight not just the plight of pets in need but also the importance of community support and finding loving homes for animals.
