Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of Theranos, welcomed two children during her legal troubles linked to fraud and conspiracy. She shares her kids with partner Billy Evans. Their son, William, was born in July 2021, just days before Holmes’s criminal trial was supposed to begin. The couple later had a daughter, Invicta, born in February 2023.
Holmes began her 11-year prison sentence in May 2023 at Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas, a term that could be reduced for good behavior. Just a few months after giving birth to Invicta, she reported to prison. In a recent interview, Holmes shared how difficult it is to be apart from her young children, stating that the separation “shatters” her world.
“I always wanted to be a mother,” she said, reflecting on her unexpected conviction. Despite the challenges, William and Invicta have the opportunity to visit her twice a week.
Moreover, Holmes’s first pregnancy caused her trial to be delayed. She informed the court of her pregnancy in March 2021, just months before William’s birth. This led to frustrations among the prosecutors as the trial had already been postponed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
William was born on July 10, 2021, in Redwood, California. Following her conviction in January 2022, Holmes announced she was pregnant with Invicta. Her partner requested leniency during sentencing, expressing concern about missing significant moments in their children’s lives. Holmes herself expressed deep regret about her actions in court.
Invicta’s birth was revealed in early 2023 as Holmes’s defense team argued against her imprisonment while she appealed her conviction. They highlighted her strong community ties, including being a mother of two young children.
Soon after Invicta’s birth, Holmes began her prison term, bringing pumps to express milk for her baby. She emphasized the importance of providing for her daughter, even in prison. This led to the establishment of lactation rooms in the prison after discussions with the warden.
Holmes’s children have been allowed to visit her, and she has described these moments as heart-wrenching. Saying goodbye to her family signifies a painful reality for her, but she also finds strength in her children, inspiring her to keep fighting for a better future.
