Court Reveals Details of Kohberger’s Exit from Crime Scene
In a recent court session, Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson disclosed that Bryan Kohberger, the man accused of killing four University of Idaho students, left the scene with a “container.” This information stemmed from an interview with one of the surviving roommates, who uniquely witnessed Kohberger leave the Moscow home on November 13, 2022.
Thompson did not specify what was inside the container, but it raises questions. It might have been a keepsake from the crime or possibly the DoorDash order that victim Xana Kernodle had just received before her tragic fate.
During the court proceedings, Thompson mentioned that Kohberger’s actions were significant to the evidence the prosecution was gathering against him. This comes shortly after Kohberger entered a plea deal regarding the charges against him.
The prosecutor elaborated that two other roommates were present in the house but were asleep during the events. One of them woke up, looked out, and saw a figure resembling Kohberger dressed in black and wearing a balaclava, holding a container as he exited through a sliding door.
The specifics about the contents of the container remain unclear due to a court order limiting what can be disclosed about the case to the public. However, possibilities include the DoorDash delivery for Kernodle, which was made around 4 a.m., just moments before the murders began.
Thompson pointed out that Kohberger might not have originally intended to kill Kernodle and her boyfriend, Ethan Chapin. This speculation arises from the situation where Kohberger might have unexpectedly encountered Kernodle while attempting to escape after the earlier stabbings of Kaylee Goncalves and Madison Mogen.
Aside from carrying a potential DoorDash order, Kohberger could have been disposing of items containing DNA evidence or perhaps even the weapon used in the stabbings. The fact that a sheath for a knife was left behind suggests he might have initially intended to hide the weapon.
As the investigation continues, the exact contents of that container could soon be clarified. A hearing on July 17 will address requests from various media outlets to lift the restrictions on court documents, possibly shedding more light on this tragic case. Following this, Kohberger is expected to receive a sentencing hearing on July 23, where prosecutors are recommending four life sentences as punishment.
