DHS Condemns Anti-ICE Rhetoric Following Arrest of Man Allegedly Plotting to Kill Federal Agents
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is raising concerns about the language used by some Democrats regarding immigration enforcement, after an Oregon man was arrested for allegedly planning to attack Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials.
Last week, police in St. Helens, Oregon, apprehended 18-year-old Rayden Coleman during a traffic stop. He was reportedly in possession of knives and materials to make Molotov cocktails. Authorities also discovered a manifesto allegedly written by Coleman, outlining a plan to kill ICE agents at a Portland office using the Molotov cocktails and a firearm. Coleman is said to have told investigators he planned to acquire an AR-15 the following day to carry out the attack and admitted to talking about beheading ICE agents.
A DHS official stated that assaults and attacks against ICE officers are increasing. The official added that the agency is now dealing with an American citizen planning to kill ICE officers.
The DHS statement comes after some House Democrats recently criticized ICE, with some comparing ICE agents to Nazis during a hearing.
DHS says that ICE Homeland Security Investigations is investigating the Oregon case. Coleman faces state charges that include manufacturing a destructive device and conspiracy to commit first-degree assault. He is currently in jail with bail set at $400,000.
DHS reports a significant increase in assaults and death threats against ICE officers.
