Daniel Goddard is set to join the cast of General Hospital, taking on the role of Henry Dalton, an environmental physics professor who finds himself in the middle of an investigation.
Goddard, age 53, is known for his previous work as Cane Ashby on The Young and the Restless, where he spent nearly 12 years, from 2007 to 2019. Fans of General Hospital won’t have to wait long to see him; his debut is scheduled for April 15.
After a three-year break from acting, Goddard had a surprising reunion with his former talent manager, Michael Bruno, who encouraged him to audition for a character named Jack Brennan. Despite his initial concerns about returning to the screen after a hiatus, Goddard embraced the opportunity. He ultimately did not get the role he auditioned for, but Bruno revealed that the show’s creators had written a new character specifically for him.
Reflecting on the experience, Goddard expressed his feelings about returning to the acting world, saying, “It was a bizarre experience. You feel like you’re going back to ground zero, even though you’ve been on a different soap opera for 15 years.” He further mentioned how this moment felt humbling and awakening.
Goddard decided to keep his portrayal of Dalton somewhat of a mystery. He told the show’s executive producer, Frank Valentini, not to give him too much information about the character. He wants to discover Dalton’s story alongside the audience.
Excited for this new chapter, Goddard looks forward to reconnecting with actress Genie Francis, known for her role as Laura on General Hospital and his on-screen mother in The Young and the Restless. “I’ve been waiting for my moment to see Genie and give her a big hello and a big hug,” he said.
To announce his new role, Goddard posted a playful Instagram video showing himself walking near the General Hospital sign, hinting at his comeback. He also expressed gratitude to his supporters, excitedly stating, “Thank you! I’m so excited to be back.” It appears that General Hospital fans are just as thrilled to welcome Goddard to the show.
