A young police officer in Florida has died after being shot while helping at a car accident.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office shared that Deputy Devin Jaramillo, who was 27 years old, was killed on Friday, November 7th. He was responding to a car crash when the incident happened.
Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said that Jaramillo was “brutally attacked” and “murdered” while doing his job. She emphasized how important it is to value the sacrifices that officers like Jaramillo make to keep the community safe.
Reports say that when Jaramillo arrived at the scene of the car crash, a fight broke out, and he was shot.
Later, the person believed to be responsible was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police are also talking to another person to find out if they were involved.
The investigation is still underway as police try to piece together exactly what happened.
Sheriff Cordero-Stutz remembered Jaramillo as a “valued member” of the police force. She said he was dedicated to his job and always worked to protect others. She also sent her condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.
