Democrats Silent on Church Disruption Prosecutions
Washington, D.C. – Several leading Democrats who previously urged strict enforcement of a law protecting access to abortion clinics are now silent on whether the same law should be used to prosecute those who disrupted a church service in Minnesota.
Back in March 2025, Representatives Sean Casten, Jan Schakowsky, and Jerrold Nadler spearheaded a letter signed by 75 House Democrats. This letter demanded that then Attorney General Pam Bondi “fully enforce” the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act. The FACE Act aims to protect women seeking reproductive health services from threats, harassment, or abuse.
However, when asked if they support using the FACE Act to prosecute activists who disrupted a Baptist church service in January, these same Democrats have remained silent. The church disruption involved protesters who opposed the church’s alleged ties to immigration enforcement.
The FACE Act, originally championed by the late Senator Ted Kennedy, protects both abortion clinics and the free exercise of religion.
Pam Bondi has already taken action, pursuing charges against individuals involved in the church disruption.
The question now is whether these Democratic lawmakers will support the even application of the law, or if their concern for safety and access only extends to specific types of institutions.
