Texas Representative Calls for Review of Homeland Security Spending
Washington, D.C. – Representative Julia Johnson from Texas has voiced concerns about how the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is using its funds. She believes Congress should take a closer look at the department’s budget, especially U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Johnson stated that DHS Secretary Kristi Noem may not be focusing on the right priorities when it comes to managing the department’s money. She suggested that some of the funds could be better used to support law enforcement efforts that uphold the Constitution and protect American citizens.
Her comments follow a recent incident in Minneapolis where an ICE officer shot a driver. DHS reported that the officer acted in self-defense after the driver attempted to harm the agents.
DHS released a statement explaining that ICE officers were conducting operations when a group of rioters began interfering. According to DHS, one of these individuals used their vehicle as a weapon, trying to run over the officers. Fearing for their lives and the safety of others, one of the officers fired their weapon.
Currently, Republicans hold the majority in both the House and the Senate. This means that any changes to DHS funding would require bipartisan support. As the midterm elections approach, Republicans are working to maintain their control of Congress.
