A 75-year-old veteran is in the hospital after an incident with a delivery driver in Michigan.
Lloyd Poole, the veteran, is in a coma. His family says that a DoorDash driver punched him after Poole told him to slow down while driving in his neighborhood.
According to Poole’s daughter, Jen Shaw, the incident happened on December 28th in Wixom. She says Poole walked out to ask the driver, Ryan Turner, 40, to drive slower. That’s when Turner allegedly punched Poole in the head.
Shaw told news station WXYZ that her father fell and never moved. She says the DoorDash driver then drove away. Poole was taken to the hospital with a black eye and had to have emergency brain surgery. Doctors removed part of his skull.
Shaw says her father is still unconscious. “He’s not responding. He can’t talk. He’s not awake,” she said. “We don’t know when he’s going to get out of this hospital bed. That may never happen.”
Police say they got a call about a man lying unconscious in the road. They believe it started as a “road rage incident.”
Police say Turner went to the station and admitted that Poole confronted him about speeding. Turner claims he felt threatened and punched Poole, causing him to fall and hit his head. He also admitted to driving away.
Turner has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He has posted bail.
DoorDash says they have removed Turner from their platform and are helping the police with their investigation. A spokesperson stated that violence is not tolerated.
Poole’s family is taking turns staying with him in the hospital, hoping he will wake up. His daughter said they are very worried because they don’t know what will happen.
