Fugitive Wanted in Connection to 2016 Murder Apprehended in Mexico
After nearly a decade-long search, Alejandro Rosales Castillo, who has been on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list since 2017, was apprehended in Mexico on Friday. The announcement was made Saturday by the FBI, bringing a measure of relief and the promise of justice to the family of Sandy Ly Le, the 23-year-old victim whose life was tragically cut short in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 2016.
FBI Director Kash Patel emphasized the importance of supporting law enforcement and giving them the tools they need to succeed. “When law enforcement is given clear backing and the freedom to act, results follow,” Patel stated. He commended the FBI Charlotte field office, state and local partners, and Mexican authorities for their exceptional work in securing the arrest, which he said “finally opens the door to long-overdue justice for Sandy Ly Le’s family.”
North Carolina Representative Pat Harrington echoed this sentiment, expressing his gratitude for the persistence of the FBI Charlotte field office, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), and federal partners. “Nearly nine years after a Charlotte murder, the man responsible is finally in custody,” Harrington said. “Grateful for the persistence of [FBI Charlotte], CMPD, and our federal partners who never stopped working to bring justice home to North Carolina.”
The case dates back to 2016 when Sandy Ly Le disappeared after agreeing to meet with Castillo, reportedly over a debt of $1,000. Her vehicle was later discovered in Phoenix. Castillo was added to the FBI’s “Ten Most Wanted Fugitives” list in October 2017.
In the wake of Le’s murder, two other individuals were also charged. Ahmia Feaster, initially listed as missing, surrendered to authorities in 2017 and was extradited from Mexico to North Carolina. She faced charges as an accessory in connection to the murder. Felipe Ulloa was also charged with being an accessory after the fact in March 2017.
The apprehension of Castillo underscores the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies at all levels – local, state, and federal – as well as international collaboration. It serves as a reminder that justice, though sometimes delayed, can ultimately prevail. For conservatives, this case highlights the importance of upholding the rule of law and supporting law enforcement efforts to keep communities safe and bring criminals to justice. It also underscores the significance of strong border security and international partnerships in apprehending fugitives who attempt to evade justice by fleeing the country.
This arrest brings a sense of closure to a long and painful chapter for the family and friends of Sandy Ly Le. It is a testament to the dedication and unwavering commitment of law enforcement professionals who work tirelessly to ensure that those who commit violent crimes are held accountable for their actions.
