Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness Announce Divorce After 27 Years
Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness have confirmed their separation after nearly three decades of marriage. Following their announcement in September 2023, Furness has filed for divorce in New York.
In the divorce papers, her lawyer included arrangements concerning their settlement, health care, and child support. The couple was married in 1996, when Jackman was 27 and Furness was 40. They are parents to two adopted children, Oscar and Ava.
The couple’s divorce is uncontested, meaning it requires only a judge’s approval to finalize.
Furness expressed her feelings in a statement following the filing, showing compassion for those who have faced similar heartbreak. She referred to the split as a "profound wound" but also mentioned her belief in a higher power guiding the healing process.
Despite the pain, she emphasized a positive view of the future. "I remain grateful," she concluded, highlighting that the relationships we form are meaningful and contribute to our growth.
Representatives for both Jackman and Furness did not provide comments. Jackman was recently spotted enjoying dinner with his former co-star Sutton Foster, hinting at a new chapter in his life.
Jackman and Furness first met on the set of the Australian television series "Corelli" in 1995. The couple endured hardships during their marriage, including fertility struggles that led them to adopt their children.
Both Jackman and Furness had expressed appreciation for their time together in their joint statement announcing the separation. They described their relationship as blessed and thanked fans for respecting their privacy during this transition.
The pair appears to be maintaining a friendly relationship following their separation, with Furness attending Jackman’s birthday celebration in October.
