Robert Dear, the man who was charged in the 2015 Planned Parenthood shooting in Colorado, has passed away. He was 67 years old.
Dear died on Saturday while he was in federal custody. He was being held at a medical facility for federal prisoners in Springfield, Missouri. Reports say he died from natural causes.
Back in 2015, Dear was accused of shooting at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs. Three people died, and nine others were hurt. After a long standoff with police, Dear was finally arrested.
Dear said he attacked the clinic because he was angry about abortions and the “selling of baby parts.” The victims included an Army veteran, a mother of two, and a police officer who responded to the shooting.
Dear was in custody since the shooting, but he was repeatedly found not mentally fit to stand trial. Courts said he had a mental disorder and couldn’t understand his case. Prosecutors tried to try him in federal court, but a judge ruled he was still unfit to stand trial.
