SharkNinja Issues Recall for Over 2 Million Pressure Cookers Due to Burn Risks
In a recent announcement, SharkNinja has recalled more than 2 million of its pressure cookers sold in the United States and Canada. This decision came after reports of over 100 burn injuries associated with the product, raising serious safety concerns for consumers.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has highlighted that certain models of Ninja-branded “Foodi OP300 Series Multi-Function Pressure Cookers” have a significant flaw. Specifically, the lid can be opened while the cooker is in operation, potentially causing hot food to spill out and result in burns. So far, the company has received 106 reports of burn injuries in the U.S., including over 50 instances of severe burns. Notably, 26 lawsuits have also been filed concerning these incidents.
SharkNinja is stressing that customer safety is their main priority. In a company statement, they emphasized their commitment to addressing these reports through this recall.
For those who own the affected cookers, it is urged that they immediately stop using the pressure-cooking function and reach out to SharkNinja for a free replacement lid. Fortunately, other features of the cooker, like air frying, remain safe to use during this recall period.
Consumers do not need to return their cookers to the place of purchase; all replacements will be handled online. The pressure cookers, which were manufactured in China, have been available since early 2019 and sold for approximately $200 at popular retailers, including Walmart and Amazon.
Those concerned about their cookers can check the product label for affected model numbers, which are detailed in the recall notice.
