Jacob Couch, a 32-year-old father from Alabama, tragically passed away from injuries sustained in a hatchet attack while he was waiting for a bus in Tucson, Arizona. This heartbreaking event took place on April 5, and his family confirmed that he died on April 17 after spending time on life support at a local hospital.
Couch’s sister-in-law, Erica Sims, shared the sad news that he had developed pneumonia and his condition worsened before he passed away. His wife, Kristen Couch, also confirmed his death and shared heartfelt memories of their time together. She expressed her grief on social media, reminiscing about their 11 years of marriage and the hopes they had for the future together.
The attack on Jacob occurred when he and Kristen were at a bus stop at around 10 a.m. on that fateful day. According to reports, a man named Daniel Michael approached them, shouted at them, and then struck Jacob in the neck with a hatchet before walking away. Michael, 25, was arrested three days later and initially faced charges of aggravated assault. However, those charges were later upgraded to first-degree murder after Jacob’s death.
Kristen described the moment of the attack, sharing how her husband bent down to gather their belongings when he was unexpectedly attacked. The couple had been living in Los Angeles for about ten months but were on their way back to Alabama at the time of the incident.
As the community mourns the loss of Jacob Couch, Kristen expressed her gratitude for the prayers and support their family has received. They are currently making arrangements to bring Jacob back home and are working on funeral plans.
