Senator Cruz Targets Groups Funding Protests, Citing Violence
Washington, D.C. – Senator Ted Cruz of Texas is taking aim at organizations and individuals he says are bankrolling disruptive protests, including those at memorials for Charlie Kirk. Cruz argues these groups are also supporting extreme anti-ICE and anti-Israel demonstrations.
Back in July, Cruz introduced a bill that would let the Department of Justice use the RICO Act against those funding violent protests. He’s urging the FBI and DOJ to “follow the money,” especially after what he calls the “horrific” and “politically motivated assassination” of Charlie Kirk.
Cruz sees a pattern of politically driven violence, pointing to past Black Lives Matter and Antifa riots, as well as recent anti-Semitic protests on college campuses and pro-open-border demonstrations.
Since Kirk’s death, several students and demonstrators have been arrested for disrupting vigils and memorials.
Cruz’s bill, called the STOP FUNDERs Act, aims to crack down on violent anti-ICE protests and the anti-Semitic demonstrations seen on college campuses since the October 7th attack on Israel.
FBI Director Kash Patel agreed with Cruz’s effort to target groups funding extreme demonstrations. During a Senate hearing, Patel supported adding rioting to the list of offenses covered by the RICO Act.
Former President Trump and Stephen Miller have also raised concerns about groups funding these demonstrations. Miller stated that these groups are organizing drop-off points for weapons and other materials needed for riots, suggesting that someone is funding these activities.
Cruz has strongly condemned Kirk’s assassination, stating that the death penalty is “absolutely merited” for the accused assassin, as “the very worst crimes deserve the ultimate punishment.”
