A man visiting a zoo in the Philippines was severely injured after climbing into a crocodile enclosure on April 28. The 29-year-old believed the crocodile was a fake and wanted to take pictures inside the enclosure.
Witnesses reported that when the man entered the area, he was quickly attacked by a female crocodile named Lalay, which bit his arm and wouldn’t let go. Bystanders shouted in alarm as the crocodile dragged him through the water, causing serious injuries.
According to local police, the man didn’t realize the danger he was in. “He thought it was just a plastic decoration,” said Police Staff Sergeant Joel Sajolga. After the crocodile attacked, a zookeeper entered the enclosure and struck the crocodile with a concrete block to free the man.
Sadly, the man sustained significant injuries, including bites to his arm and leg, and required over 50 stitches at a nearby hospital. Authorities emphasized the importance of not entering animal enclosures, noting that the man’s actions put both himself and others in danger.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
