Simon Cowell, the well-known judge from shows like “American Idol” and “The X Factor,” recently shared his insights on what he looks for in a singer. Cowell says he can often tell within the first 10 seconds if someone has the potential to succeed.
Cowell explained that the audience’s reaction is a big clue. He noted that a quiet audience usually means the singer isn’t connecting, while a loud reaction or complete silence often indicates a strong performance.
Over the years, Cowell has helped launch the careers of many successful artists, including Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and the group One Direction. He says his passion comes from finding talented people who might not otherwise get a chance. These are often individuals without connections or managers, people who just need someone to give them a shot.
Cowell is known for his honest, sometimes blunt, feedback. He believes it’s better to be truthful with contestants, even if it’s not what they want to hear. He argues that sugar-coating criticism doesn’t help them improve. He points out that he was given the same blunt advice as he started in the music business and now feels the need to treat people with the same honesty.
Cowell also talked about his new Netflix docuseries, “The Next Act.” The show follows him as he tries to create the next big boy band. He says he missed working with groups and wanted to show the process of finding and developing talent. According to Cowell, the most important things for a successful band are still hit songs and a strong fan base. He emphasized that fans ultimately determine a band’s future.
