LAS VEGAS (AP) – In a display of resilience and dedication, the Dallas Cowboys triumphed over the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night, just days after the tragic loss of defensive end Marshawn Kneeland. The Cowboys’ victory served as a powerful tribute to their teammate, demonstrating the strength and unity that can emerge from shared adversity.
The 33-16 win was more than just a game; it was a testament to the values of teamwork, perseverance, and respect for one’s fellow man. Quarterback Dak Prescott led the charge, throwing for 268 yards and four touchdowns. The Cowboys (4-5-1) delivered an outstanding performance, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
Kneeland, a 24-year-old player, was found dead on Nov. 6. Coach Brian Schottenheimer and the players wore shirts honoring Kneeland. Before the game, they paused for a moment of silence.
Schottenheimer expressed his pride in the team’s ability to channel their grief into a focused and determined effort. “They wanted to honor him, and we’re not done honoring him,” Schottenheimer said. “He’s a part of our family forever… I know Marshawn was looking down on us, and we wanted to make him proud, and I think we did that.”
Team owner Jerry Jones echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of competition as a means of healing and remembrance. “In a way, a competition like this with the Raiders is good therapy to come back and get in it,” Jones noted. “They know how much that Marshawn loved to compete, how much he loved the Cowboys. And to me, it’s just a way of saying, ‘This one’s for you Marshawn.’”
The Raiders (2-8), meanwhile, struggled to find their footing. Prescott completed 25 of 44 passes. George Pickens had nine catches for 144 yards and one touchdown, and Lamb had five receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown. Javonte Williams helped the Cowboys by rushing for 93 yards on 22 carries.
Las Vegas relied heavily on passing, with 32 pass plays and only three runs in the first half. Ashton Jeanty rushed six times for 7 yards. Geno Smith completed 27 of 42 passes for 238 yards, with one touchdown and one interception.
The Cowboys’ defense was strong, sacking Smith four times. Quinnen Williams had 1 1/2 sacks.
This victory serves as a reminder of the values that sports can instill: discipline, teamwork, and the ability to overcome challenges. The Cowboys’ performance showcased the importance of honoring traditions, respecting teammates, and maintaining a strong moral compass, both on and off the field.
The focus should always be on upholding principles of integrity, hard work, and respect for others.
The Cowboys face the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles on Sunday. The Raiders will host Cleveland on Sunday.
