The Atlanta Falcons celebrated a 26-19 victory against the Arizona Cardinals this past weekend, and quarterback Kirk Cousins marked the occasion with a festive touch.
Following the game, Cousins appeared before reporters sporting a Christmas-themed suit jacket. The eye-catching jacket featured a design of Christmas tree branches adorned with lights and ornaments.
Before beginning his post-game comments, Cousins playfully asked a reporter if they were “a little jealous” of his unique attire. He then explained that the outfit was chosen by his wife. “Yeah, my wife dresses me, so,” Cousins said, “She wanted this on.”
Cousins added a touch of humor, stating he would not have worn the festive suit had the Falcons lost to the Cardinals. “I have enough self-awareness to know that’s not the right decision,” he said, acknowledging the importance of timing and appropriateness.
Cousins started this season after Michael Penix Jr. suffered a season-ending injury. Before that, Cousins had lost his job as the Falcon’s full-time starter in the middle of last season to Michael Penix Jr. after signing a four-year deal.
Reflecting on the win against the Cardinals, Cousins shared a mix of emotions. “It has a weird feeling right now because any time you win in this league, you have to be grateful and happy about it,” he said. He also expressed a desire for continuous improvement, noting, “I think we all as professionals hold ourselves to a standard where we feel like there are plays for each one of us that could’ve been better – I feel that way. It’s an interesting feeling right now.”
Cousins acknowledged the Cardinals’ efforts, stating, “We’re thrilled and we’re going to enjoy the flight home, but we’re all kind of looking at each other like, ‘Hey, could you have done this? Could I have done that?’ That’s just the emotion you feel right now. I think some of that’s a credit to Arizona. I thought they played really hard, made it hard and made it feel muddy and junked up a little bit throughout the game – they did a good job of that.”
In the game against the Cardinals, Cousins completed 21 of 35 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns. This season, he has played in eight games, starting six, with 1,415 passing yards and eight touchdown passes. His record as a starter this year is 3 wins and 3 losses.
Currently, the Atlanta Falcons have a season record of 6 wins and 9 losses.
