A man in Minnesota has been found guilty of kidnapping and killing a real estate agent. The agent had met the man for what she thought was a regular home showing on New Year’s Eve.
Monique Baugh, who was 28 years old, was kidnapped on December 31, 2019, in Maple Grove, Minnesota.
After almost six years, a jury in Hennepin County has convicted Lyndon Akeem Wiggins, who is 40 years old, of several crimes. These include first-degree murder, according to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.
Wiggins and another person, Elsa Segura, tricked Baugh into coming to the house by setting up a fake appointment to view the home.
When Baugh got to the house, two men grabbed her, put her in a U-Haul truck, and later shot her. Her body was found in an alley. Her hands were tied with duct tape.
Reports say that the attackers then drove the U-Haul to the home of Baugh’s boyfriend, where they shot him.
The boyfriend survived. He told police that he couldn’t see who shot him, but he thought Wiggins might want to hurt him.
Wiggins was first found guilty of Baugh’s murder in 2021. However, the Minnesota Supreme Court overturned that conviction in 2024 because the jury was given wrong instructions.
Two other people, Cedric Berry and Berry Davis, were also found guilty in 2021. They were charged with helping in the murder and kidnapping.
Segura, who was reportedly dating Wiggins at the time, admitted in court in 2024 that she helped kidnap Baugh.
Berry and Davis have been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of release. Segura was sentenced to 240 months in prison.
Even after being convicted a second time, Wiggins is now asking for a third trial.
His lawyer filed a request for a new trial on the day he was supposed to be sentenced.
