Justice Department Officials Downplay Comey Arrest Rumors
Top officials at the Department of Justice (DOJ) have dismissed recent media speculation about a possible public arrest of former FBI Director James Comey. These remarks came just before Comey’s scheduled court appearance.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche and FBI Director Kash Patel addressed these rumors, calling them a distraction. They emphasized that the FBI conducts arrests regularly and that the focus should remain on the legal process.
Blanche stated that the reports of a staged arrest were simply “gossip” and “noise.” He affirmed Comey had been directed to appear in court and is expected to do so.
Patel added that the media’s focus on the arrest rumors was a “detraction” from the important work of the FBI. He was in Chicago to show his support for the FBI personnel involved in “Operation Midway Blitz,” an immigration enforcement operation.
Both officials stressed that the DOJ’s priority is to ensure justice is served through the legal system. Patel stated, “We’re not about theater. We’re about producing our results in court.” He added that Comey, like every American, is entitled to his day in court.
Comey faces charges of making false statements to Congress. The DOJ officials anticipate that the details of the case will be revealed through the judicial process.
