An Ohio grand jury has charged a Chicago man with the murders of his ex-wife and her husband in their Columbus home.
Michael David McKee, 39, was indicted on January 16th on charges of aggravated murder and aggravated burglary, with the use of a firearm suppressor.
The charges relate to the deaths of Monique Tepe, 39, McKee’s former wife, and Dr. Spencer Tepe, 37, a dentist. The couple was found dead in their home on December 30th. McKee and Monique Tepe divorced in 2017.
McKee was taken into custody in Rockford, Illinois. He has waived his right to an extradition hearing and is awaiting his next hearing in Illinois.
Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant stated that authorities believe McKee is the individual seen in video footage near the Tepes’ home on the night of the murders. His vehicle was also reportedly seen near the house. A firearm found at his residence in Illinois matched evidence from the crime scene. Authorities have not released details on the type of firearm used.
The arrest comes after nearly two weeks of investigation into the deaths. There were no signs of forced entry at the Tepe residence. Authorities did not find a weapon at the scene. The couple’s children were unharmed in the home.
Police are asking the community to continue to provide any information related to the case. Tips from the public have been helpful in gathering evidence.
