A Colorado woman has been convicted of the murders of two young children, a case that has shocked the community. Corena Minjarez, 39, was found guilty on August 27 of two counts of first-degree murder for killing her boyfriend’s children, three-year-old Yesenia and five-year-old Jesus, as well as two counts of abuse of a corpse. She has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The investigation into this tragic case began in early 2024 when police received a tip about a storage unit in Pueblo. On January 22, officers discovered Yesenia’s remains encased in concrete inside a metal container. A DNA test confirmed her identity. Just weeks later, on February 6, investigators located Jesus’s remains stuffed in a suitcase in the trunk of an abandoned car, which was registered to Minjarez.
Disturbingly, both children had never been reported missing and were last seen in 2018. Their father, Jesus Dominguez Sr., was also arrested and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. As part of a plea agreement, he is expected to testify against Minjarez and will be sentenced on September 12, 2025.
During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence that included a receipt for concrete bought with Minjarez’s credit card and documents linking her to the storage unit. The defense argued that Minjarez acted out of fear for Dominguez Sr. and claimed he was ultimately responsible for the children’s deaths.
