Colin Jost Takes a Humorous Jab at His Staten Island Ferry Purchase on SNL
Comedian Colin Jost made a splash during the May 3 episode of Saturday Night Live with a sketch poking fun at his recent purchase—an old Staten Island Ferry boat. In the skit, he comically attempts to sell the ferry to a father and daughter locked in a parking dispute.
Joining forces with Pete Davidson and Paul Italia, Jost bought the decommissioned ferry, the MV John F. Kennedy, last year. Reflecting on the decision, he humorously stated it was "absolutely the dumbest and least thought-through purchase I’ve ever made in my life."
The sketch, titled "Ferry Altercation," featured host Quinta Brunson and cast member Mikey Day as two frazzled drivers engaged in a heated argument. Jost made a surprise appearance at the end, trying to entice them to buy his ferry.
"Hey!" he exclaimed, leaning against the car window. "If you love ferries, would you like to buy one?" His enthusiasm was both funny and desperate, showcasing his comedic style.
As the sketch unfolded, Chloe Fineman, playing Day’s daughter, was startled and recognized Jost. Day attempted to brush Jost off, but he continued to plead for a sale, even jokingly pretending to be Pete Davidson to grab their attention.
Since joining SNL in 2005, Jost has developed a strong presence on the show. Speaking about his ferry purchase, he noted the potential for profit, comparing it to buying a property. "For the amount of money we were putting into buying it, it’s like getting a building on its side," he said.
In a prior interview, Jost admitted that his decision might not have been the best, but he defended it with a cheeky remark about the ferry’s potential to generate income.
While some may see the purchase as a questionable decision, Jost’s light-hearted approach has certainly added to his comedic repertoire.
