Clinton Seeks Public Hearing in Epstein Probe
Hillary Clinton is now asking a key House committee to hold a public hearing when she testifies about her connection to Jeffrey Epstein, a man who committed terrible crimes. James Comer, who leads the House Oversight Committee, is in charge of the investigation. Clinton wants to testify in front of cameras, instead of in a private meeting.
In a recent post online, Clinton said she had tried to work with Republicans on the committee, but they weren’t listening. She believes a public hearing would be more open and honest.
The House Oversight Committee is looking into Epstein’s crimes and those of Ghislaine Maxwell, who helped him. Maxwell was found guilty of finding young girls for Epstein. She is now in prison.
Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, had earlier agreed to answer questions from the committee in private. They were asked to testify after the committee sent them official requests last year. At first, they didn’t want to come, but after the committee threatened to take legal action, they agreed.
Now, Hillary Clinton wants to change the rules and have a public hearing. Some people think she wants the hearing to be public so the committee can’t release only parts of her testimony that might make her look bad.
Clinton’s spokesperson says a public hearing would be fairer and let everyone see what’s happening. They say people are very interested in the Epstein case and any links to important people.
Chairman Comer said that the Clintons agreed to testify only after facing pressure.
Comer stated, “Everyone must follow the law – even the Clintons. They initially resisted our requests, but after we took steps to hold them accountable, they changed their minds and will now answer our questions under oath. We want to find out the truth about Epstein and Maxwell’s awful crimes and bring justice to the American people and the survivors.”
The investigation continues.
