In a striking incident in suburban Denver, a pair of expensive bulldogs was stolen from a local pet store, thanks to a clever but deceitful plan. Authorities reported that a man pretended to have a seizure in order to distract employees while another accomplice snatched the puppies and made a swift escape.
The shocking theft took place on a Sunday and was captured on the store’s surveillance cameras. According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, three men entered the pet store at different times, casually browsing and inquiring about the puppies, which were priced at $4,299 each. During the ruse, one man fell to the floor, seemingly in distress, while his partner opened the pen and grabbed two puppies.
Despite an employee’s brave attempt to stop him, the thief initially dropped the puppies but quickly retrieved them and fled the store with one of the other men. They hopped into a gold Cadillac Escalade with tinted windows and no license plates that was idling outside.
Authorities have since arrested the man who faked the seizure on charges of conspiracy to commit a felony, theft, and possession of illegal drugs. The search is ongoing for the two other men involved in the scheme, as well as the driver of the getaway vehicle.
In a twist, one of the stolen puppies was returned after a woman purchased it for $1,500 from a street vendor, only to recognize it later as one of the puppies featured in news reports about the theft. This case raises serious concerns over security and the safety of business owners in our communities, highlighting the need for vigilant protections against such brazen criminal acts.
