Scientists Discover New Dinosaur Species in Argentina
Paleontologists in Argentina have unearthed a new dinosaur species, a megaraptoran dubbed Joaquinraptor casali. This discovery, detailed in the journal Nature Communications, offers valuable insights into these ancient predators.
The dinosaur, estimated to be around 23 feet long, roamed South America approximately 66 to 70 million years ago. Evidence suggests this Joaquinraptor casali consumed ancient crocodiles.
The find includes a partial skull, as well as arm, leg, and tail bones. These fossils provide a more complete skeleton than previously discovered megaraptorans, helping scientists better understand their evolution and place in the prehistoric ecosystem.
Named in memory of the son of one of the discoverers, this new species highlights the ongoing efforts to uncover the history of life on Earth.
