Cindy Pickett Shares Untold Stories from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off Panel
Recently, actress Cindy Pickett joined her former co-stars at The Hollywood Show to discuss the beloved film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. During the event, held on June 6, Pickett revealed an interesting tidbit about one of the movie’s most famous lines.
According to Pickett, the iconic closing statement, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it," was not part of the original script. It was added by the late director John Hughes at the last moment, surprising both the cast and audience. "He just threw that in," she said. “It’s not in the original script. He had the best time."
This heartfelt line has stuck with Pickett, who played Katie Bueller, Ferris’s mother. At 78, she still cherishes it, stating, “That’s what it’s all about. That’s something I remind myself.”
The film’s plot revolves around Ferris Bueller, portrayed by Matthew Broderick, and his friend Cameron Frye, as they skip school for an unforgettable day in downtown Chicago.
Broderick, now 63, also shared his experiences working with Hughes. He recalled feeling some tension on set, as Hughes was anxious about the film’s success. "He wasn’t a loosey-goosey person," Broderick noted, but he appreciated Hughes’s dedication: "He took the work very seriously."
Despite some disagreements, the fruits of their labor paid off as Ferris Bueller’s Day Off became a cultural landmark, loved by generations. This event reinforced not only the film’s legacy but also the bond that the actors share, rooted in their experiences and memories of working alongside the legendary John Hughes.
