A 12-year-old girl from Nevada was taken into custody after allegedly stabbing her father during a disagreement just a few days after Christmas.
On December 27th, police in North Las Vegas received a frantic call from a family member who believed the girl’s father, James Waldie, 55, was dead in their apartment. The caller mentioned that the girl suspected an intruder might have entered their home.
When officers arrived, they found Waldie deceased. As investigators looked into the situation, they discovered that police had been called to the apartment several times in December due to previous incidents involving the girl. Reports indicated that she had assaulted her father, causing him visible injuries, and had run away several times, including on the day of the alleged stabbing.
Although the girl initially gave conflicting explanations about what happened on December 27, investigators say she eventually admitted to stabbing her father during their argument. She was arrested and is now being held at the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center, facing a charge of murder with a deadly weapon.
The family of James Waldie expressed their grief, stating that his loss has deeply affected them. They shared in a fundraising effort that they are seeking donations for funeral costs and memorial keepsakes for his ashes.
Waldie was a father to four daughters, two stepdaughters, one son, and two stepsons, and he was also a grandfather to two. His obituary noted that James’s kindness would be fondly remembered by his family, friends, and everyone he touched during his lifetime.
