Checkers Employee Charged with Murder Following Drive-Thru Incident
In a troubling event at a Checkers restaurant in Kissimmee, Florida, an employee has been charged with first-degree murder. The incident took place on May 21 when police allege that Elijah Travis Mackey shot a customer named Wesley Robertson after a dispute over an order.
According to reports, Robertson was unhappy with his meal and asked to speak to a manager. As tensions rose around 10:10 p.m., Mackey, 23, joined the argument, which escalated quickly. Witnesses say that Robertson insulted Mackey during this confrontation.
The situation turned violent when Mackey allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot Robertson in the chest, according to police. Eyewitnesses verified that they saw Robertson complaining to staff about his order and requesting to talk with a manager before being shot.
Surveillance footage shows Mackey leaving the drive-thru window and approaching the front of the restaurant where the confrontation occurred. After the shooting, Robertson was rushed to the Osceola Regional Medical Center but unfortunately did not survive.
Following the incident, Mackey fled the scene but was later found hiding at a nearby hotel. When police apprehended him, he reportedly informed them that he had a gun. The weapon was later recovered on him.
On May 22, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office issued an arrest warrant for Mackey. He is now facing serious charges, including first-degree premeditated murder, and remains in custody as he awaits further court appearances.
Checkers representatives expressed shock at the event, stating that the actions of Mackey do not reflect the company’s values. The restaurant is cooperating with law enforcement in the ongoing investigation and offering condolences to Robertson’s family.
