Chevy Chase, the famous actor known for his comedy, is sharing details about a health problem that put him in the hospital for over a month.
In a new documentary called “I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not,” which will be shown on CNN on January 1, Chase, who is 82, and his family talk about his time in the hospital because of a heart issue. His daughter, Caley, said he “has basically come back from the dead.”
Chase’s wife, Jayni, explains in the documentary that he had a heart problem where his heart couldn’t pump blood well. This was made worse by years of drinking. His friend, Peter Aaron, said that doctors put him in a coma for about eight days.
Doctors told his family to be ready for the worst, saying they might not get him back, or he might not be the same.
Chase was in the hospital for five weeks in 2021. He later said that he was happy to be back with his family and feeling better, but that he had been in the hospital because of a heart issue.
Chase had spoken before about being diagnosed with alcohol cardiomyopathy, a condition where the heart muscle weakens from too much drinking.
In the documentary, Chase said that he is doing fine now.
Chase became famous as one of the first cast members on “Saturday Night Live.” He left the show after the first season to try to become a musician.
Recently, “SNL” celebrated its 50th anniversary. Chase was there, but he wasn’t asked to be on stage with the other actors.
He said that it was upsetting because he thought he would be on stage with the others. He didn’t know why he was left out.
Chase said he talked to Lorne Michaels, the creator of “SNL,” about not being included, but he acted like it was a joke. He really felt that someone made a mistake and that he should have been on stage. It hurt him.
