NEW YORK — Pharrell Williams is hopeful about the upcoming Met Gala, which will spotlight Black designers for the first time. This year’s event also marks a significant return to a menswear theme after over two decades.
“I want it to be a powerful night, showcasing Black resilience in a world that sometimes feels limiting,” he recently expressed.
The Met Gala, known for its glamour and significance, is set for the first Monday in May.
How to Watch the 2025 Met Gala
Vogue will broadcast the gala live, starting at 6 p.m. Eastern time on Vogue.com and its YouTube channel. Teyana Taylor, La La Anthony, and Ego Nwodim will act as hosts for the stream, while Emma Chamberlain will interview guests on the red carpet.
The Associated Press will also stream the celebrity arrivals starting at 5 p.m. Eastern and provide delayed coverage of the gala itself beginning at 6:30 p.m. E! will kick off its live coverage at 6 p.m. on TV, with options to stream on Peacock and YouTube.
Who’s Hosting the 2025 Met Gala?
This year, a group of Black male celebrities will host the event, including Williams, who now serves as the Louis Vuitton menswear director. Other hosts include Lewis Hamilton and Colman Domingo. NBA star LeBron James will be the honorary chair, aided by Vogue’s Anna Wintour, the gala’s guiding force.
Also attending will be a diverse group of hosts from various fields, including athletes, filmmakers, and musicians. The gala plays a crucial role in funding the Costume Institute’s activities at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This Year’s Dress Code
While the dress code leans toward tailored suiting, it allows for individual interpretation through the lens of Black dandyism. The theme is inspired by the exhibition “Slaves to Fashion,” which highlights the history of Black style and identity.
According to guest curator Monica L. Miller, dandyism blends precision with flamboyance, celebrating the thoughtful presentation in dress and self-expression.
Who Else Will Attend?
The guest list for the gala will include around 450 prominent figures from various fields, emphasizing the importance of representation. Williams remarked on the necessity of having a broad mix of successful Black and brown individuals present, not only from entertainment but also from various industries like finance and architecture.
He believes collaboration is essential for harnessing the collective talent and potential of the community.
The Met Gala promises to be an event full of energy, celebration, and cultural significance as it unfolds in May.
