Driver Detained After Striking Pedestrians at Liverpool Parade
A driver was taken into custody after hitting pedestrians during a parade celebrating the Liverpool Football Club’s Premier League title on Monday, May 26.
This incident occurred around 6 p.m. local time in Liverpool’s city center, where thousands had gathered to enjoy the festivities.
The Merseyside Police reported they were alerted about a car colliding with several pedestrians on Water Street. They confirmed that the vehicle stopped at the scene and that a 53-year-old man from the Liverpool area was arrested.
Emergency services quickly responded to the situation. The North West Ambulance Service stated they were on site, coordinating with other emergency teams to ensure those injured received prompt medical attention.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his concerns in a statement, describing the scenes in Liverpool as "appalling." He thanked the police and emergency responders for their swift actions and requested that they be given space to conduct their investigation.
Witness Natasha Rinaldi recounted her experience, saying she saw the car strike people while watching from a friend’s window. She described the panic that ensued as people rushed to confront the driver and the chaos that followed, filled with screams and confusion.
