A man in Florida is in trouble with the law after his girlfriend was found dead.
Saul Garcia-Gonzalez, who is 40 years old, is accused of killing 37-year-old Nerida Martel. Police say they found Ms. Martel’s body in a canal in Miami.
Mr. Garcia-Gonzalez had told the police that Ms. Martel was missing just a few days before her body was discovered on October 11.
Investigators looked at phone records and videos that allegedly showed Mr. Garcia-Gonzalez in the area where the body was found. They also said that he gave different stories about when he last saw Ms. Martel.
Some people said that Ms. Martel had talked about Mr. Garcia-Gonzalez being mean to her. She had even asked a friend if she could stay with them the night before she disappeared. Police think this means she wanted to end her relationship with Mr. Garcia-Gonzalez.
The Medical Examiner’s Office said that Ms. Martel died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Mr. Garcia-Gonzalez was arrested on November 26. Police say they figured out that he had killed Ms. Martel.
After being arrested, Mr. Garcia-Gonzalez said he didn’t kill Ms. Martel. A judge has decided that he will not be released from jail.
