A federal judge, originally appointed by President Reagan, has recently challenged the actions of the Trump administration regarding the deportation of some pro-Palestinian protesters and academics from universities.
Judge William G. Young, in a hearing in Boston, questioned the legality of the administration’s efforts, suggesting they unfairly target specific groups and suppress free speech.
In response, White House representatives stated that the judge appeared to be engaging in left-wing activism against the President. A Department of Homeland Security official also criticized the judge’s statements.
The administration defended its actions as part of a broader effort to combat antisemitism, especially on college campuses, arguing that some individuals involved have expressed support for Hamas, which is considered a terrorist organization. They believe the government has the right to decide who can enter and remain in the United States, especially those who may sympathize with terrorists.
Judge Young has been critical of President Trump’s policies in the past.
