Authorities made several arrests at a campsite in rural Alabama on December 30th. The campsite was home to a religious group for several months.
The Walker County Sheriff’s Office said they executed a search warrant at the campsite in Empire, Alabama. During the search, they found drugs and a gun. Sheriff Nick Smith shared this information in a video on Facebook.
The religious group is called “More Than the Prophet Ministries.” Their leader, Lando, who is called Reverend Lamp by his followers, said that he had been renting the campsite for about a year. He invited people who needed help, including those with drug and alcohol problems.
Lando said the owner of the property, who lives in Arkansas, told them to leave in November. By the time the police came with the warrant, many people had already left. Lando said the rest of the group was packing up and planned to leave by the end of December.
Sheriff Smith said that some members of the group were arrested, and drugs and a handgun were found. He also warned that if any members return to the property, they will be arrested for trespassing.
Lando claimed that the police found marijuana, not other narcotics, at the site. He also said that the handgun belonged to someone who used to live at the campsite.
Lando said that the police were too forceful. He said that if they had just asked him to leave, he would have told them that they were planning to leave that day anyway.
The Walker County Sheriff’s Office received help from the Blount County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in the investigation.
