Hollywood heavyweight James Cameron, known for blockbusters like “Avatar” and “Titanic,” is speaking out about a joke made at his expense years ago.
Back in 2013, during the Golden Globes, comediennes Tina Fey and Amy Poehler took a playful jab at Cameron during their hosting duties. The joke referenced his previous marriage to director Kathryn Bigelow while introducing her nomination for “Zero Dark Thirty,” a film addressing controversial interrogation methods.
Poehler quipped, “When it comes to torture, I trust the lady who spent three years married to James Cameron.”
Cameron recently addressed the comment, calling it an “ignorant dig.” He emphasized that award shows should be about celebrating cinema, not personal attacks. While acknowledging he can take a joke, Cameron felt this one crossed a line.
Despite the old joke, Cameron clarified that he and Bigelow remain supportive friends. In fact, they were both nominated for Best Director at the 2010 Academy Awards, where Bigelow won for “Hurt Locker,” beating out Cameron’s “Avatar.” Cameron said he was the first to applaud her win, though he admitted he wished “Avatar” had also been recognized with the Best Picture award, which “Hurt Locker” also won.
