A former wife of a doctor in Los Angeles has been taken into custody for allegedly being involved in his “ambush-style” murder, along with four other suspects.
On December 12, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) announced the arrest of 53-year-old Ahang Mirshojae, who is suspected of killing her ex-husband, Dr. Hamid Mirshojae, aged 61. He was shot in August.
On the same day, 46-year-old Shawn Randolph was also arrested on suspicion of murder. Two other suspects, Evan Hardman, 41, and Sarallah Jawed, 26, were taken into custody and charged with murder with special circumstances on December 10 and 11, respectively. Additionally, 40-year-old Ashley Rose Sweeting was arrested and charged as an accessory to the murder.
According to the police, this group of five conspired to murder Dr. Mirshojae, which ended with his fatal attack.
The LAPD’s report stated that the investigation is still ongoing, and detectives are working to understand the nature of the relationships between the suspects and the victim.
Dr. Mirshojae was shot while leaving his family clinic in Woodland Hills on August 23 around 5:30 p.m. A masked man allegedly ambushed him in the parking lot. Authorities described how as the doctor approached his car, the assailant came out from behind the clinic and shot him before escaping back behind the building.
Officers arrived at the scene shortly after 6 p.m. following reports of a shooting and found Dr. Mirshojae with a gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The LAPD has said their homicide detectives, along with the FBI and other agencies, worked together to identify and arrest the five suspects in connection with the case.
A prosecutor revealed in court that Sweeting allegedly drove the shooter to the scene, indicating the situation resembled a murder for hire. She has pleaded not guilty.
On December 12, police and federal agents also searched Ahang’s former residence, but it’s unclear if any notable evidence was found.
Currently, Ahang and Randolph are being held without bail, with their cases set to be presented to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office soon.
