A man in California is in jail after being accused of killing his wife.
Manuel Leal Robles, who is 37 years old, is charged with murder. Police say he shot and killed his wife, Ana Karen Robles, in the city of Bakersfield on November 26. He has said he is not guilty.
According to a police report, the couple’s 15-year-old son told police that his parents were drinking and arguing the night of the incident. The son said that his father pointed a gun at his mother while she was on her bed.
The son said that Robles then got a different gun, an AR-15, and shot his wife several times, saying “this is what happens when you cheat.”
After the shooting, the son said Robles put the gun in his mouth but didn’t shoot. The son then took the gun away and threw it outside. He also stopped his father from possibly hurting himself with knives. Robles then left in his truck.
Police found Robles later at a shopping center and arrested him. The police report says that Robles told the officers that his wife had cheated on him and that he had “messed up.” He also said that his wife “didn’t deserve that.”
The son also told police that his parents fought often and that his father would make holes in the walls when he was drinking. Robles had found out about his wife’s affair a month before the incident.
Robles is also charged with child cruelty and hurting his spouse. He is in jail and is scheduled to appear in court on February 11.
