Caitlin Clark Shines in WNBA Preseason Game
IOWA CITY, Iowa — Caitlin Clark delighted fans with a spectacular moment during a recent WNBA preseason match. Late in the third quarter of the game between the Indiana Fever and Brazil’s national team, Clark stopped and made a stunning 3-pointer from a familiar spot on the court, right by the “22” logo. This was the same spot where she made history as the all-time leading scorer in NCAA women’s basketball during her senior season in 2024.
With just 25 seconds left in the quarter, Clark’s shot added to her impressive performance in front of a packed arena, reminiscent of her record-setting days with Iowa’s women’s basketball team. “I thought, ‘Why not?’” Clark said with a smile. “Had to give the fans a little something.”
Playing in her second season with the Fever, she contributed significantly to Indiana’s 108-44 victory, scoring 16 points. Her strong start included a 3-pointer just 34 seconds into the game, hitting from the Iowa “Tigerhawk” logo.
The crowd, which filled the arena with nearly 15,000 fans, responded with the thunderous cheers that have become synonymous with Clark’s time at Iowa, where she led the Hawkeyes to consecutive NCAA national championship games.
“It’s amazing to see how many people love her,” said Fever forward Makayla Timpson. Despite a recent leg injury that kept her out of the previous game, Clark played just under 19 minutes and continued to impress, making 6 of 10 shots, alongside six rebounds and five assists.
"This gym brings out my best," Clark shared. This marked her second return to Carver-Hawkeye Arena since she had her jersey No. 22 retired earlier this year after Iowa beat USC.
Before the game, she expressed her gratitude for the fan support. “They’re here cheering for our entire team, not just me,” Clark acknowledged, highlighting the community spirit.
The crowd’s enthusiasm was palpable, with noise levels recorded at a staggering 116 decibels for her pregame introduction and even higher during her first shot. Fever coach Stephanie White noted the excitement surrounding Clark and emphasized the incredible experience for both players and fans.
“It’s a privilege to have this fan base,” said Iowa coach Jan Jensen. “We’re thrilled to see so much support in May.”
The event drew intense interest, with ticket prices skyrocketing on the secondary market, some going as high as $2,368. Clark made it clear she wanted to play despite her injury, demonstrating her dedication to the game and the fans.
Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 17 points, while Aliyah Boston added 11. After nailing that final shot, Clark waved to the crowd, urging for one last cheer.
“Getting the crowd involved is my goal,” she remarked before the game.
In the spirit of community and support, Clark continues to inspire fans and teammates alike as she embarks on another exciting season in the WNBA.
