Caitlin Clark Withdraws from All-Star Weekend Due to Injury
INDIANAPOLIS — Caitlin Clark, the guard for the Indiana Fever, will not participate in the upcoming All-Star weekend after suffering an injury. During the closing moments of the Fever’s win over the Connecticut Sun, she hurt her right groin, prompting her decision to rest.
In a message shared on social media, Clark expressed her disappointment: “I am incredibly sad and disappointed to say I can’t participate in the 3-Point Contest or the All-Star Game. I have to rest my body. I will still be at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for all the action, and I’m looking forward to helping Coach Sandy Brondello lead our team to a win.”
Clark was slated to take part in a highly competitive 3-point contest and was the captain of one of the All-Star teams, having received the most votes from fans. Her presence has been a significant boost for the league, contributing to rising attendance and viewership over the past two seasons.
In her absence, Brittney Sykes from the Washington Mystics will step in for Clark in the All-Star Game, though a replacement for the 3-point contest has yet to be announced.
After suffering the injury with less than a minute left in the game, Clark was seen walking gingerly down the court. Despite her efforts to assist her team, she could be seen struggling with the pain, leading to a visibly emotional moment on the bench.
Previously known for her durability throughout college and her rookie season in the WNBA, Clark has faced multiple muscle injuries this year. She missed the preseason due to muscle tightness and endured a quad strain in May, sidelining her for five games. Although she returned briefly, another injury affected her left groin, keeping her out for four more games.
As fans and teammates rally around her, the hope is that Clark will recover quickly and return stronger for the remainder of the season.
