Actor Timothy Busfield Faces Charges, Claims Innocence
Timothy Busfield, known for his roles in “The West Wing,” has surrendered to police in Albuquerque, New Mexico, following accusations of improper conduct with minors.
Busfield, 68, says he drove roughly 2,000 miles to address the allegations.
In a video, Busfield states that he denies any wrongdoing and intends to fight the charges. He claims the accusations are false.
The Albuquerque Police Department issued an arrest warrant for Busfield, alleging unlawful sexual contact with two 11-year-old boys.
The boys reportedly met Busfield on the set of the TV show “The Cleaning Lady,” where he worked as a director. An investigation started after a hospital reported possible abuse.
According to the arrest warrant, the boys told their mother that Busfield, referred to as “Uncle Tim,” had touched them in ways that made them feel uncomfortable.
Busfield told investigators that the parents were angry their sons were replaced by a younger actor. He also suggested he had been told the mother was seeking “revenge.” He said it was “highly likely” he would have tickled the boys in an effort to create a playful atmosphere.
Authorities are also investigating a claim that Busfield kissed one of the boys on the face while the child was getting a haircut on set.
Melissa Gilbert, Busfield’s wife, has not made any public statements but is supporting her husband, according to her representative. She is focusing on her family.
