Actor Timothy Busfield, known for his role in “The West Wing,” is facing serious allegations of child sex abuse. He turned himself in to authorities in New Mexico earlier this month and was held without bail.
Busfield’s legal team is fighting back, claiming that the parents of the children who made the accusations have a history of dishonesty and may have ulterior motives. They argue that the parents, Ronald Rodis and Angele LaSalle, only came forward after their children lost a role and after consulting with lawyers.
According to Busfield’s lawyers, Rodis is a former attorney who was convicted of fraud and disbarred. They suggest that the accusations against Busfield are a form of retaliation.
During a recent hearing, Busfield’s lawyer, Amber Fayerberg, argued that the children were actually victimized by their parents, who were trying to regain lost income.
However, prosecutors argue that Busfield has a history of inappropriate behavior. They brought up an incident reported by actress Claudia Christian, who claimed Busfield assaulted her in the past.
Despite these allegations, a judge has ordered Busfield’s release from custody while he awaits trial. The judge stated that he must appear at all future court dates and is not allowed to contact any witnesses or children under 18. The next hearing is scheduled for February 4th.
The case began in November 2024 after a doctor reported a possible case of sexual abuse to the police. According to police audio presented in court, the children initially told officers that Busfield did not touch their private areas.
Busfield faces multiple charges, including criminal sexual contact of a minor and child abuse. If convicted, he could face a lengthy prison sentence.
