Damian Lillard Faces Injury Setback with Torn Achilles
MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Bucks suffered a significant blow as seven-time All-NBA guard Damian Lillard was diagnosed with a torn left Achilles tendon. This unfortunate news came after Lillard was unable to continue during a game on Sunday night.
Following an MRI on Monday, the team confirmed that Lillard will miss the remainder of the postseason, raising concerns about his availability for the next season as well. The last time a major player like Kevin Durant faced a similar injury, he missed an entire season.
"Appreciate all the prayers and well wishes," Lillard expressed in an Instagram post. "This one really hurt… HIS way not MY way. To be continued…"
The Bucks were bracing for this outcome after their recent loss to the Indiana Pacers, putting them down 3-1 in their first-round series. Game 5 is set for Tuesday in Indianapolis.
Lillard’s injury came during his return from another health scare earlier in the season. He had just come back from deep vein thrombosis in his right calf, a serious condition that kept him off the court for 14 regular-season games.
Bucks coach Doc Rivers stated, “This is a tough one, honestly. Blood clot followed by this. It’s just tough. That’s why you have teammates and family around him.”
The injury occurred midway through the first quarter when Lillard tried to assist a teammate and suddenly fell to the ground, clutching his leg. He was unable to put weight on his left leg and had to be helped off the court.
Teammate Pat Connaughton expressed concern, saying, “He’s one of the toughest guys I know. When he stays down, you feel for him.”
Despite his ongoing health challenges, Lillard had shown incredible determination and skill, ranking 10th in the NBA for scoring and assists this season while earning his 10th All-Star selection.
With Lillard out, the Bucks are facing yet another season marred by key injuries during the playoffs, continuing a trend that has plagued them since their championship win in 2021. The team hopes to rally together in his absence as they push through the challenging postseason.
