Providence, RI – The search continues for the suspect in the Brown University shooting that occurred Tuesday. Authorities have released new video footage and are asking for the public’s help in identifying the individual.
The incident took place in an engineering building classroom, where two students tragically lost their lives and nine others were injured. The suspect is described as having a stocky build and standing approximately 5 feet, 8 inches tall. It is believed he fired over 40 rounds from a 9 mm handgun.
Law enforcement is urging residents in the area to review their camera systems for any footage that may assist in the investigation. While police initially detained a person of interest, they were later cleared of any involvement.
In response to the shooting, authorities have increased security measures at local schools, with state troopers assisting Providence police. After-school activities, sporting events, and field trips have been canceled as a precaution.
The university has defended its response to the tragedy, stating that it is committed to the safety and security of its students. Brown President Christina Paxson emphasized that the campus is equipped with 1,200 cameras and that the university has emergency notification systems in place.
The victims have been identified as MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, 18, and Ella Cook, 19. Several wounded students remain hospitalized, with one in critical condition.
This incident raises questions about the role of guns in society and the need for responsible gun ownership. While some are calling for stricter gun control measures, others believe that the focus should be on addressing mental health issues and promoting a culture of respect for the law.
